Pertussis vaccine - should we vaccinate at a younger age?
I have just done an interview with ABC Victoria regarding Australia's current high rate of pertussis (whooping cough) and what can be done about this. An AMA representative was interviewed about an hour earlier than me and they said that the vaccine should be given earlier - perhaps even from birth - though there is no evidence that this will work since newborns are unable to develop true immunity via vaccination (which is why there are so many boosters in such a short time period) at such a young age.
I appreciate the ABC giving me the opportunity to air the AVN's side of the story - a rare event at this time.
