What doctors don't want you to see...
Our blog is currently the site of a back-and-forth debate about whether or not manufacturer's package inserts are made readily available for Australian families to access so they can be fully informed prior to making a vaccination (or any drug) decision.
One of the so-called skeptics (that group that is so very unsceptical when it comes to questioning anything mainstream) has been insisting that www.medicinesaustralia.org.au lists all of the manufacturer's package inserts so therefore, people can access this information whenever they want to. (of course, ignoring the fact that not everyone has Internet access nor do they know where to find this information unless they are directed to it)
Of course, the information on that site consists of CONSUMER leaflets - a far cry from the real package inserts for vaccines or drugs.
Compare these two and see for yourselves.
First, here is the information from www.medicinesaustralia.org.au for the Gardasil HPV vaccine. (found at http://www.medicines.org.au/files/cscgarda.pdf)
Next, compare that with the information from MIMS on Gardasil (the following is posted under fair use legislation for study only):
As you can see, the consumer information is quite incomplete and does not include much of the vital detail that is found in the MIMS insert.
For those who don't know this, the AVN used to have these inserts freely available on our website but several years ago, we were ordered to remove them because of copyright issues. How any company can hold the copyright to information that is vital for ensuring that people are able to make informed decisions is beyond me, but there you go.
Other countries such as New Zealand, the UK and the United States do not allow this information to be copyright and it is found everywhere online and in libraries, etc. Only in Australia can the drug companies manage to not only withhold this information, but end up making a profit selling it to others as well.
For a bit more insight into this issue, please view the following youtube video which shows a paediatrician explaining why parents should not be given the package inserts before making a decision to vaccinate their children. We are too stupid to understand this information, it will scare us and may even lead to us choosing not to vaccinate.
No, we don't deserve to have this information provided to us - according to many in the medical community and amongst the pseudo-skeptical community, parents should just shut up and do as they are told.
